It may seem like you could never imagine a cycle carrier giving you a new lease of life, but if leading a long, healthy life is something you’re interested in then you couldn’t be more wrong!
Think back to the days when your childhood friends would knock on your parents’ door, ask you to play out, and the first thing you would grab is your bike. Riding as far as you possibly could, parking up near a pond, skipping stones and playing catch. Oh, how summer as a child was the best!
That feeling of accomplishment and earthly fun is close, you can get it back, and a cycle carrier is your key to a new adventure. Bring your bike with you wherever you go because you can; go on bigger adventures, travel further and ride down tracks you could have never reached as a child.
Cycle carriers allow you the freedom to travel as far as the roads can take you and still bring your bike with you. There are some amazing cycling routes that can only be accessed by car, but once you’re there, your two feet are the only thing keeping you from where you want to be.
One amazing cycle route which is not located within riding distance, but still relatively close for most of us is Lancashire Cycleway, meaning you’d need to drive with your bike rack in tow, mounted to the roof or attached to your rear door. This testing cycle route has two-loops, and meets in the village of Whalley in the Ribble Valley, it is an exciting 260 miles long and covers the Bowland Hills, West Pennine Moors and coastal scenery at Silverdale.
If you’re all about sight-seeing and viewing pieces of history then the Longniddry trail could be for you, it is a 33-mile ride reachable by road from Edinburgh, but it’s a jam packed weekend if you fancy a few stops. It includes castles, a water mill and the Museum of Flight, passing East Fortune and North Berwick. The roads are scenic and quiet and perfect for some self reflection or wholesome bonding time.
And if you’re a daredevil then you’ll love the challenge of the North Face Trail at Grizedale Forest in Cumbria. Its 16 kilometre trail offers much of what off road biking is all about; it has amazing views, testing climbs and excitement. There are also forest sculptures on the route in the unlikely event that you get bored or tired and need to break up the journey.
Looking for one that would be perfect with children or for riders with all different types of abilities? The Mawddach Trail in North Wales could be perfect for you; it covers 22 miles of back roads through Dolgellau and Barmouth with breathtaking views to really make you appreciate nature and everything that goes with it. Another option which is child and beginner friendly is Swinley Forest in Berkshire it can be seen to be a sufficient starting point for the less confident bike rider, though there are some gradual hills to test your endurance. There’s a beautiful network of trails in this 2,600-acre pine wood and can switch up your route each time if you don’t make it the full way.
