Meet the new VW Beetle line up

Few cars have become so deeply ingrained in popular culture as Volkswagen’s iconic VW Beetle. The Beetle, also affectionately known as the ‘Bug’, has become inextricably linked to the swinging 60’s and the era of free love. However, Volkswagen has decided that it’s time to update the Bug’s hippy image.

The new VW Beetle line up has been re-designed to be a more masculine and dynamic car. The new styling has given it sleeker and cleaner lines, but Beetle enthusiasts won’t feel short changed. Volkswagen has ensured that this much-loved car still retains all of its quirky retro charm, only with a modern twist.

Three new Beetle models have been created. The new 2012 VW Beetle 2.0 TDI comes with a six-speed DSG semi-auto gearbox, and the 2.0-litre TDI unit, which is already widely in use throughout Volkswagen’s model range. This particular engine is in VW’s mid-spec range, and comes with Design and Sport trims, which means that prices start at £20,085.

Two new entry-level models have also been added to Volkswagen’s UK VW Beetle line-up, and both of these new variants will be available in entry-level Beetle and mid-spec Design trims.

The expanded range now includes a new entry-level model with a 1.2 litre TSI engine, not to mention a manual gear box. This means that the cost of an entry level Beetle has been slashed by £1,405, taking the cost of the vehicle down to £15,195.This is the first time the 1.2-litre TSI has been available with a manual gearbox, but we’ve already seen Volkswagen’s 1.2-litre TSI engine with a DSG transmission.

An entry-level 1.6 TDI diesel unit is also available which is mated to a five-speed or seven-speed DSG, making it Volkswagen’s new entry-level diesel, with prices starting from £17,030.

With first deliveries expected in January 2013, these new VW beetles are available to order now.
