The New Year is finally here! Many of you may be on a hunt for a new car to begin 2018 and there is an extensive range of new cars arriving to the UK in 2018, from new small SUV entrants to hatchback family cars. So whether you have a large family caravan to take on your travels or simply carrying a trailer, one thing is for sure you’re going to need a suitable car to tow it with. We have listed a few of new cars set to launch this year from the lowest to the highest priced vehicle. Take note that all prices are estimated.
Dacia Duster
The Dacia Duster offers more space in the front of its cabin than most cars at the given price. The proportions in the vehicle make it one of the most practical cars, with better head and leg room than many of its competitors, so space-wise it makes a perfect family car. Thanks to the tall door openings and the car’s raised floor, you don’t have to bend down to get kids in and out of child seats. It’s evident that no rival comes close to competing with the price of the Dacia Duster. However, being the cheapest SUV out there comes with flaws. The vehicle’s noise is a problem, especially when driving on the motorway. Engines for the Dacia Duster are available in the choice of a 1.6-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel.
Hyundai i30 Tourer
The Hyundai i30 has the largest engine in the range with a relatively compact 1.6-litre diesel. Despite being a three-cylinder, the motor surprisingly has little noise or vibration inside the car. However, the Hyundai i30 Tourer is most certainly a car more suited to comfortable cruising on the motorway than winding country roads. So it is perfect for city trips in the night, but may not be suitable for country roads. As with the hatchback, there is plenty of storage in the front of the cabin, with large door bins, a lidded cubby between the seats on all but entry-level models and a useful space at the base of the centre console.
Subaru Impreza
The new Impreza was first shown at the 2016 New York Motor Show, and it has already been on sale in the US for some months now. This year, the Subaru Impreza will be entering into the European market. The Subaru Impreza hatchback is a rival to cars like the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf and it’s built on Subaru’s new Global Platform. The vehicle will offer two petrol engines, a 1.6-litre unit lining up alongside a 2.0-litre, both of which are flat-four boxer engines. The 1.6-litre develops 112bhp and 150Nm of torque, while the more powerful 2.0-litre produces 154bhp and 196Nm of torque.
Volkswagen T-Roc (price starting from £20,000)
The Volkswagen T-Roc is a car we’re most excited about because VW has proved in recent years that they understand what campervan owners want from their vans and towing cars. The all-new Volkswagen T-Roc is entering into the small and compatible SUV market, competing against Renault Captur and Nissan Qashqai. The Volkswagen T-Roc offers reasonable fuel economy, with the practicality of a higher roof that’s curved to make the car look sporty. The style and design of the Volkswagen T-Roc appears bolder in comparison to its rivals. The interior dashboard can be matched with the exterior for a modern and youthful look.
All T-Roc models are equipped with 4Motion four-wheel drive, providing consumers with flexibility with two on-road modes, street and snow, as well as two off-road modes, off-road and off-road individual. The 4Motion four-wheel-drive models also includes a standard driver profile function, which allows the driver to choose between five modes: comfort, normal, sport, eco and individual. This is functional for a frequent traveller who is able to adjust their vehicle according to the road type. Three power outputs will be available: 115hp, 150hp, 190hp in both petrol and diesel versions. All models of the T-Roc will contain an infotainment touch screen with key features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring, as well as a wireless charging pad for your phone.
Vauxhall Insignia Country Tourer
The Vauxhall Insignia Country Tourer follows a similar concept to the Audi A4 Allroad and Volkswagen Passat Alltrack. However, its price leads the Vauxhall into direct competition with the slightly smaller Skoda Octavia Scout and Seat Leon X-Perience. Along with the steering and throttle response, gearbox shift points and the adaptive cruise control, the suspension can be adjusted into comfort, normal or sports mode, making it a suitable towing car on the road. The amount of passenger space in the front and back is great for the family, where there is loads of room to stretch out during long road trips.
Jaguar E-Pace
Did you know? This brand new Jaguar E-Pace is the first jaguar that has been built outside the UK. The Jaguar E-Pace is the British firm’s smallest SUV to date and is a sportier alternative to the likes of the BMW X1 and Audi Q3. The back seats can fold down separately in a 60:40 split, allowing you to carry long items and passengers at the same time, or together to open up a roomy 1,234-litre load bay. The vehicle’s flat floor will make it easy to slide in heavy luggage and there’ll be enough room to store a bike. Digital connectivity can be found throughout the cabin, to make every road trip a lot more entertaining and will keep the kids entertained throughout a car journey. There are up to four 12-volt charging points and five USB connections as well as a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot for up to eight devices.
BMW X2
The BMW’s new X2 compact SUV is to makes its public debut at the Detroit Motor Show this year in January. The new car is competing against the Jaguar E-Pace and Mercedes GLC. As with most modern BMW models, drivers will be able to select between comfort, eco pro and sport driving modes, which adjust the gearbox, engine and steering settings. However, it is slightly less practical and spacious than the previous X1, as there is more emphasis on the sporty design. Nevertheless, since it is part of the BMW X series, there is less likely to be any risks when purchasing the BMW X2 and is ideal for consumers who are searching for an SUV with a sporty design. Buyers will be able to choose from four trim levels, SE, Sport, M Sport and M Sport X. Even entry-level SE comes with plenty of equipment, including cruise control, sat-nav, 17in alloy wheels, front fog lights and dual-zone climate control. The BMW sport models additionally receive sports seats, black gloss exterior trim, LED headlights and larger alloy wheels.
