The Land Rover Discovery 2017 was one of the most anticipated new cars of the year which has taken a step away from the usual tried and tested recipe for the vehicle. It was unveiled in 2016 at the Paris Motor Show, with a more fluid shape and upmarket interior; despite looking like a car built for the runway it can still be used as a workhorse with brilliant off-road capability. The entry level model for the 5th generation Land Rover Discovery will be priced at £43,495 and is expected to hold its value well for any buyers who are interested in re-sale prices . The Land Rover Discovery is essentially a 26 year old model which has been updated to become a more sophisticated, softer edged look that moves it away from its traditional styling. The new Discovery’s body is constructed from aluminium unlike its predecessor which eliminates around 480kg from the car’s weight, this has given room for better materials and greater soundproofing to be used.
It is evident that Land Rover have given thought to the fact that many buyers are attracted to the Discovery because of its appeal as a towing vehicle and they have added features which help keep the same audience attracted to the vehicle. One of these features is called Advanced Tow Assist (ATA) which Land Rover are relying on to bring the Discovery to the top of the best tow cars on sale, activating the ATA system will split the task of whatever is being towed between the car and the driver. This means that the car will essentially steer itself, automatically calculating where to go and how much steering lock is needed whilst the driver can devote their attention to the item being towed, guiding it through a dial on the centre console. PF Jones have towbars available for the Land Rover Discovery and other Land Rover models which are enabled for towing, we offer a nationwide fitting service which can be carried out mobile or at one of our depots. Another towing feature is the Trailer Light Test which is brilliant for someone towing alone, this activates trailer lights from within the vehicle and allows the driver to check they’re working without needing assistance from another.
The Discovery is only offered as a seven seat model on the UK market, with the rear seats up there is a small 258 litres of boot space however with these folded there is a large 1137 litres of loading space available which is an advantage when travelling with a caravan hitched and family in the car. All of the seats in the car apart from the passenger and driver can be lowered and raised electronically using the touch screen or phone app. With a maximum towing capacity of 3500kg there isn’t much that the Land Rover Discovery can’t do.
