It’s easy to drop a receipt from the petrol station on the floor, or leave an empty bottle of water on the back seat, but it’s the start of a downward spiral. Its spring and the sun is out, so get on the spring cleaning.
Our number one top tip is DE-CLUTTER!
There’s no need for the collection of old car air fresheners in the glove compartment, or the £3.76 in loose change dotting around your car. Get out the bin bag and get rid of unnecessary clutter. It may be difficult for the little hoarder inside of you that wants to keep that cleansing wipe from the fast food restaurant just in case of an emergency, but trust us, you don’t need it. This first cleanse of clutter will make it much easier for our other top tips in your spring clean.
Tip two – Use the knobs and brushes on the hoover
They’re there for a reason, and it’s the only way to get into all the nuts and crannies in your car. Lift up those seats and give it a good vacuum, there’ll be stuff you haven’t seen in years in there. Don’t forget about the boot space, after lugging all your bags and outdoor equipment around, the boot can get very dirty, it needs a good hoover now and then.
Clean with anti-bacterial spray not just polish is tip number three
The smell is better plus it gets rid of more germs. We’ve all done a quick clean of our car where we just polish the dashboard and say the jobs done, but think about how clean those door handles are or even your steering wheel. You touch and hold onto a steering wheel for sometimes very long periods of time on a daily basis, and whether or not you just washed your hands before you got in your car, germs spread so we suggest using anti-bacterial spray for a deep clean not just a quick wipe over.
Don’t forget about the outside, tip number for is a good old car wash
Some people love it, some people hate it, either way, it’s got to be done. Cars can get so dirty on the roads its near impossible to keep them clean. Use a soft brush or non-abrasive sponge and car shampoo to first scrub at dirt. Scrub harder on the wheels and any stubborn dirt patches. Rinse off with a hose pipe or power hose (not the dirty bucket water!) and a micro-fibre cloth to dry and polish. That’s it. No need for all the fancy polish and fancy jet wash sprays, just a bit of water and elbow grease will get the job done. Now your car will look good on the inside and outside.
Finally, top tip number five is keep it organised
We understand that a super clean and tidy car can’t be the case 100% of the time for most people, but there are ways to keep your car organised and clutter free. Car bins are great for this, you can buy these but you could always make one, but it means all the rubbish is in one place and makes it much easier to clean next time round. To keep your boot tidy on your travels there’s always the option of external cargo, either on the roof of your car with a roof box or on the back with a bike carrier or rear mounted cargo. This means you can keep the inside of your car clean from mucky bikes and football boots.
