Celebrating the Land Rover Defender

After decades of the British triumph that has seen passengers from Queen Elizabeth II to James Bond, the Land Rover Defender will cease production tomorrow.

When this long lived vehicle first came into life in 1948 it was named the war-time jeep, Britain’s answer to the American Jeep, the Land Rover is an icon of British heritage but due to the old fashioned design and its high emissions in contrast to modern EU strict regulations, the Land Rover Defender has lost its place in the market.

The Defender name can be traced back to the early 1990’s but as of 29th January 2016 the last Land Rover Defender will be produced by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) at Solihull in the West Midlands.

This tough car an be seen on the roads in Chelsea to war zones in Iraq, its’ ability to adapt be driven by anyone-anywhere means that this important vehicle will be missed from many different cultures and walks of life.
