New fourth generation Subaru Forester – a real SUV

The New fourth generation Subaru Forester is a real SUV! It’s a workhorse and an all-wheel drive vehicle for those who want a car that is capable of walking the walk, instead of just looking like an off-roader! This is an SUV that is designed for working hard, hauling things and getting dirty. It’s the genuine article and has been much loved by country folk for a long time now.

The traditional image of the Subaru Forester has been one of life down on the farm, the country estate and having fun driving across muddy fields. In fact, there’s a good reason why this vehicle has become a firm favourite among farmers, as well as horsey Home Counties types. It’s down to the fact that it’s a functional four wheel drive that delivers on its promises. It hasn’t just been designed with aesthetics in mind. However, the Forester is beginning to pop up here and there in the streets of our cities. Of course, we know that city dwelling folk love SUV’s too. The Subaru Forester doesn’t quite posses the same fashion credentials as some of the other SUV models, but people still can’t get enough of the four-wheel drive grip, the boxer engine and the solid, boxy shape. The Forester also has a well deserved reputation for toughness and reliability.

Come next summer, the all-new fourth generation Forester will be more efficient, as it’s currently a little heavy on the fuel. It also promises to be more elegant, and of course, larger than before! Hopefully it will still retain all of its rugged toughness – because that’s an intrinsic part of its appeal.

Not only has Subaru confirmed the new Forester’s launch, but the company has also revealed the initial details on the engine range. We can look forward to 150bhp 2-litre boxer petrol, diesel variants and a fairly beefy 280bhp 2-litre direct injection turbocharged petrol variant.

The petrol and diesel naturally-aspirated engines will come with a six-speed manual transmission. Both of the petrol engines will be offered with the Lineartronic (CVT) automatic transmission, which has been re-engineered to manage increased power outputs. Developments have also been made to improve the Forester’s fuel efficiency, so that both of the petrol engines equipped with (CVT) automatic transmission conform to the 2015 Japanese fuel economy standard
