Campfire Cooking

Campervans are becoming a new, more popular way of life and a new take on the whole camping or glamping experience as it brings a new level of comfort whilst allowing you to roam free, wherever the roads may take you.

I know the thing that puts off most people from camping is that they miss out on all the home comforts that we love to do when waking up on our free time, like spending a long time lying in bed when you’re awake, cooking a full English breakfast, and just lounging around in comfort, going waking up by the campfire doesn’t always mean you need to miss out on any of these things, whether you’re vacationing with family, taking some well deserved alone time or on a romantic getaway; there is a recipe that will make you love your campervan holiday even more.

Campfire cooking is a great way to bond and unleash your creative side to imagine what recipes can be created and loved when you don’t have all your kitchen utensils, I bet you didn’t think you could bake some delicious muffins without your conventional oven and the comfort of your baking tray, but this post is going to explain how to make amazing meals on your campfire, some just as good as cooking at home, and no we’re not just talking about the American classic of S’mores, although you can never go wrong with an original recipe, so we have included that below for some of you less adventurous ones.

Sweet S’mores

“A simple recipe for fun around the campfire and an overload on sugar”

English s'mores

Ingredients:

Digestive Biscuits
Dairy milk chocolate
Marshmallows

Method:

Now if you want to go for the American campfire authentic looking S’mores you’ll want to go for the packet of marshmallows only containing the white ones. This is a simple one in that all you need to do is pop the marshmallow onto a campfire safe skewer and wait until they melt slightly. Place inside two digestive biscuits along a bit of the chocolate and squash together, and there you have it: SWEET S’MORES!

Really though, this one is a great one because there are no perishable ingredients, leaving your fridge available to store the essentials and its safe fun for all the family to enjoy!

Mac ‘n’ cheese

“A family favourite, comfort food at its finest”

Campfire mac n cheese

Ingredients:

Macaroni
16 ounces of Cheddar Cheese
1 teaspoon of salt
10 ounces of evaporated milk
Onion
2 diced tomatoes

Method:

Now this one can be as extravagant or as simple as you want, if you like an original recipe macaroni cheese then stick with the basic ingredients above, however if you like to embellish then bring your seasonings and favour with you, pop a little cilantro in, hot pepper sauce or whatever your taste buds crave. First heat the cheese with the evaporated milk, onion and salt over fire on the lowest heat (as far away from the flame) until the cheese is melted.  Cooking the pasta before you leave on your adventure is definitely an option for those of you who like to be prepared, but it is just as simple to boil it on the campfire.  Once the cheese is melted combine the macaroni and stir combine, when it is heated through add the tomatoes, leave to heat for a few moments and enjoy!

Here’s a bonus recipe for the grown-ups!

Bailey’s dipped marshmallows

“a guilty treat”

Ingredients:

Marshmallows
Baileys

Method:

Roast the marshmallows over the campfire and dip into some baileys! It really is as simple as that, might seem too simple, but once you taste this concoction you will never feel the same about a normal marshmallow again!
