Toyota towbar recall

You might remember the recent Toyota recall a few weeks back that concerned the faulty electrical window switches. This was the largest recall to date for the auto manufacturer, with 7.3 million vehicles around the globe are affected. This included the Yaris, Corolla, Auris and the RAV 4 models that were manufactured between September 2006 and December 2008.

This incident is another chapter in a long line of faults, and Toyota has been doing its best to put on a brave face. As if this wasn’t embarrassing enough, Toyota has now found itself blighted a new episode of the ongoing recall saga this one is being referred to as the the ” Toyota towbar recall”  safety concerns over the optional towbars on some of its models.

This towbar was on offer as an optional extra in some Toyota models including the Previa, Lexus GS and the Avensis. A faulty towbar could be extremely dangerous, and you would have thought that Toyota should be endeavouring to let their customers know all about the potential perils of its optional towbars. This isn’t the case, and so far, the auto maker hasn’t even published so much as a single update on its website. Customer services are merely saying that owners of the affected vehicles will be notified by letter.

If you have been affected, you may have already received a letter. Otherwise owners of affected cars can expect to get written notification which will state that there may be a possibility of a crack appearing in their accessory towbar.

The worst case scenario is a fractured tow ball, but Toyota is assuring owners that there hasn’t been any reported accident concerning the towbars so far. If you have one of the vehicles that have been affected, your local dealer will be able to replace it for free.
